Shops are open, Monday to Saturday from 8.00am/10.00 am and close around 7.00 pm with a break between midday and 2 pm in the provinces.

Some shops close on Monday.

On Sunday, there are markets in a lot of towns but market day does differ.

Department stores are open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 7pm.

When a public holiday falls on a Thursday or Tuesday, it is common practice to "make the bridge" (faire le pont) by taking off the Friday or Monday, creating a very long weekend. Be aware that when this happens you may find businesses running on short staff or smaller family run business closed for the full period.
